Why should I hire you?
I imagine you've looked at my portfolio before visiting the FAQ, so you're probably aware of this: I make a great photo. I'm precise, detail oriented, and know my camera inside and out. Beyond that, and this should be important to you if you're looking for a photographer, I'm a pretty easy going guy. I'm professional, reliable, efficient, and you will get the service and product you expect.
What equipment do you use?
I'm a Nikon user, grabbing the D300s for most jobs, and keeping a D5100 as a backup and for additional video work. I have a full set of Nikkor professional lenses. Also in my arsenal is a full set of studio lighting equipment and a set of portable flash units for location lighting that I make full use of. If you're curious about what's in my kit, feel free to ask.
What exactly do I get if I hire you?
It depends on the job, but I'll normally provide about 12-15 edited high resolution photos in a digital format (available as a web URL) for every 1-1.5 hours of shooting. As for which photos you get, we can either leave it up to me to select the photos to edit and deliver, or if you would like, you can use the provided PDF list of all the images from the session to choose which photos you would prefer I edit.
Do I get a CD of all the images from the session?
Although a disc of all the originals can be made available to you, I believe that the impact of a particular photograph - a certain moment - is really heightened when it's not framed by dozens of similar photos. I spend hours selecting each photo carefully to ensure you're getting the best. Plus, you'll be given a PDF of all of the proofs so you can be in control of which ones are edited and delivered.
What sort of editing do you do to the photos?
Personally, I like to make sure the images keep true to their origins, accurately portraying what was experienced in those moments captured. My workflow consists first of correcting anything that's out of place (crop, exposure, white balance, etc.) and applying a few basic filters to let the photo stand out on it's own. I don't normally find myself using specialty filters or layers, or performing aggressive editing, as I like the subject of the photo speak for itself. You can see the evidence of this in my portfolio. I do take cues from your personal preference though, so please let me know the style that you find most appealing.
How far are you willing to travel?
Where ever you are! I'll take any excuse to travel anywhere throughout the province, the country, or the world. Travel fees are quoted upon request. The fees listed on this website include travel to any event in the greater Saint John area.
What is needed to retain your services for an event?
The most important issue is whether I am available for your date. If I am, I require a deposit of 50% of the total fee to secure the date. The balance is due on the day of the event.
Can you elaborate on your style of photographing an event?
Simply put, I tell a story with images. These images convey all the emotion and excitement of an event, without staging or forcing moments to happen. This natural approach allows clients of mine to just be relaxed and enjoy themselves. The result: a pictorial narrative that communicates all the energy and substance of the event, as documented by a true photojournalist.
